Despite offering some of my best work for sale in the form of prints and books, in the history of making and sharing my work through Nate Shots I have never made a profit.

As a photographer, documenting and sharing progressive activism is a passion of mine. That means I don’t rely on selling work I make and share with thousands of people every year. I don’t profit from the photos you came here for. In fact, I firmly believe that art should be accessible to everyone outside of paid museums and private collections. But, that’s hardly a given nowadays; the drive for profit has monopolized access to a lot of the art we love and hold dear.

Nate Shots is different in that I don’t exclusively belong to corporate brands, advertisers, for-profit media or private collectors. My work is created for you, the community, activists, students and donors. You’re the reason Nate Shots exists. The fate of my work rests in your hands, and I personally wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s folks like you who safeguard my mission to make activist photographs that capture a part of the landscape of American culture. You help me maintain my integrity, quality and accessibility.

The work I create is free and open to the groups I photograph and cover, with all expenses covered by me. The heart and soul of my work is my community, the thousands of viewers like yourself and the hundreds of activists I photograph — all here to support my work to create accessible and quality photos. When I founded Nate Shots, I could have made a profit from my work by catering to corporate brands, advertisers, for-profit media or private collectors, but I decided to do something different.
